One week before the LSU football team makes its postseason appearance, five former Tigers received they would be making a postseason appearance of their own. The NFL named Odell Beckham Jr., Patrick Peterson, Tyrann Mathieu, Andrew Whitworth and Trai Turner to the Pro Bowl Tuesday night.
LSU tied Georgia for the school with the most players selected this season.
Beckham Jr. has spent his second year in the league growing into a household name as one of the premier receivers in the league. He is third in the NFL to Antonio Brown and Julio Jones in receiving yards this year. The New Orleans native made headlines this past week for his on-field altercation with the Panthers’ Josh Norman.
The fight resulted in a one game suspension for the Giants’ star receiver.
Mathieu and Peterson are leaders of a Cardinals team that is well on their way to a first round bye in the NFC. Unfortunately for Mathieu, this announcement comes the same day Arizona placed him on season-ending Injured Reserve after suffering a torn ACL this past Sunday.
Whitworth is the starting left tackle for the Bengals. Cincinnati ranks in the bottom half the league in sacks allowed this season thanks in large part to Whitworth’s play.
Turner is the starting right guard for the only undefeated team left in the NFL, the Panthers. Despite missing many of their top weapons, Carolina has had one of the best offenses in the league. The Panthers had 10 players in all selected.
The Pro Bowl is January 31 in Honolulu, Hawaii.
