As students peruse The Tiger Lair’s dining options, wallets may shrink while waistlines may widen.
The average person should consume between 2,000 and 2,500 calories per day, according to Melissa Moore, assistant strength and conditioning coach of the Lady Tigers’ basketball, softball and tennis teams. To gain one pound, an individual must consume an extra 3,600 calories in addition to his or her allotted daily calories.
For about every 100 calories, an individual would have to walk or run one mile to eliminate them, according to Moore. To qualify for running, an individual must run about 7 mph. For walking, though, an individual must walk at 3 mph.
“Running and walking is the same amount of work,” Moore said. “It is the style that slightly affect the amount of calories burned. The difference between walking and running is the time it takes to complete the desired goal or distance.”
