After the wide success of its first single, “Animal,” Neon Trees is back again, trying to regain the ground previously won with alternative-pop fans and radio listeners. Unfortunately, the group’s sophomore studio album “Picture Show” failed to generate a singular outlying track, creating instead a set of consistent but mediocre material. It’s plain to see the attempt at making an infectiously catchy anthem once more, but despite frontman Tyler Glenn’s powerful vocals, the collection falls flat. Nearly every song sprints with lightning drums and hollered lyrics. It isn’t awful, the musicians are clearly talented and it would be hard to resist Glenn’s roars in a live show, but the album fails to meet the standards of the group’s previous success.
