Are you staying in good ole Baton Rouge for Spring Break? Rather than pinning for the beach, you can check out what Baton Rouge has to offer for a tried and true stay-cation.
This weekend and upcoming week are full of events, whether you want to relax and drink a few beers while laughing at a comedian or dance to a little country, jazz or blues.
Baton Rouge kicks of the spring break celebration Friday night at the River Center with the Royal Comedy Tour, featuring Celebrity Guest DJ Spinderella from Salt n Pepa. The following night, the River Center will feature the male a cappella group Straight No Chaser, who became famous for a song posted on YouTube in 1998.
And finally, Sunday marks the beginning of Baton Rouge Blues Week, featuring concerts throughout the week in the Manship Theater, Teddy’s Juke Joint, The Roux House, Chelsea’s, The Pastime and Phil Brady’s.
If you want something a little different during the week, you should swing by the LSU Museum of Art Thursday night to hear the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band or go to Perkins Rowe for the band Carbon Copy. All of these events lead up the Baton Rouge Blues Festival on Saturday April 14th. The lineup includes Johnny Winter, Henry Gray and Lil’ Buck Sinegal, The Royal Southern Brotherhood, Watermelon Slim, Lightnin’ Malcolm & Cameron Kimbrough, Jonathon “Boogie” Long, James Johnson, and The Young Band Nation Blues Project.
So if you can’t make it to the beach this spring break, just remember that there is plenty to do here, and it will ALWAYS beat a sun burn!
