UK-based Florence and the Machine, best known for the hit single “Dog Days Are Over,” formed in 2007. In 2009, their debut album “Lungs” was released to positive reviews and commercial success. The second album, “Ceremonials,” was released in 2011.
Florence and the Machine’s style was described as “dark, robust and romantic,” according to Rolling Stone writer Jody Rosen. Much of the music is centered around lead singer Florence Welch’s dominating voice, which ranges from a deep, soulful tone to a brazen, high-pitched one.
English newspaper The Sunday Times described Welch as “the most peculiar and most highly acclaimed female singer of the moment” and “the latest in a line of great English pop eccentrics.” Spin magazine said in its review of “Lungs,” “You’ve gotta hand it to the girl: She always makes you feel something.”
Florence and the Machine was nominated for “Best New Artist” at the 53rd Grammy Awards, and has won 16 different awards worldwide.
Welch plans to spend two years on your to promote “Ceremonials.”
