The University plans to add 175 total new crime cameras around campus within the next year.
In the past six months, the University has added 30 new cameras to their camera system. However, the funding for these cameras does not just come from the LSU Police Department.
Capt. Cory Lalonde, LSUPD spokesman, said the University bought into the web-based camera system and the majority of funding comes from individual campus departments. Departments have the option to install cameras inside buildings, as well as the exterior.
The web-based system is ongoing and can always add new cameras.
Lalonde said it is a cooperative effort and everyone works together to add to the system.
The University adds an average of 25 and 30 cameras per year.
