Former walk-on center Andrew Del Piero was awarded a scholarship, LSU coach Johnny Jones said Wednesday.
The 7-foot-3 senior, who spent his first two years of college in the tuba section of the Golden Band from Tigerland, saw action in four games last season, averaging 0.8 points and 0.5 rebounds per game.
“Because of the work that he put in, his commitment to what we were doing and Andrew being a senior and what he’s gone through, I just thought it’d be fitting,” Jones said.
Del Piero is the Tigers’ 11th scholarship player in Jones’ first season at the helm.
