The LSU women’s tennis team will focus on fine-tuning its game as it sees its second action of the season this weekend at the Rice Fall Invitational held at Rice University in Houston, Texas.
The Rice Fall Invitational will be the team’s first competition since the Longhorn Invitational two weeks ago, where three Lady Tigers advanced to the quarterfinal round of the singles draw and freshman Ella Taylor moved on to the singles semifinal round.
“[Ella is] a feisty competitor,” said LSU coach Julia Sell. “She absolutely plays better in a tournament than she does at practice. If there was something that surprised me, it was that. I saw another level come out of her that I loved.”
Sell and the Lady Tigers have spent the past two weeks working on the finer points of the game and trying to improve upon their performance at the Longhorn Invitational.
“The little things like serving, returning and our transition game is what we’ve been focusing on the last few weeks,” Sell said. “…We were giving away a lot of points, just double-faulting or easy-miss seconds or returns. Right now, those are just errors we have to cut out.”
The doubles teams will consist of senior Kaitlin Burns and junior Ariel Morton, sophomores Mary Jeremiah and Ella Taylor, and freshman Caroline Hudson paired with a player from a different school. All five Lady Tigers will also be competing in the singles competition.
