Teen arrested for French Quarter armed robberies
NEW ORLEANS (AP) — A 15-year-old suspected gunman was arrested just hours after he allegedly committed three armed robberies in the French Quarter.
New Orleans Police say the first armed robbery occurred Tuesday night in the 1100 block of Royal Street when two victims were approached by the suspect. He produced a handgun and demanded the victims’ cell phones. One of the victims complied and then the suspect fled. A few minutes later, a similar robbery occurred in the 600 block of Frenchmen Street. Shortly after that, a person sitting on the front steps of a home on North Rampart Street was approached and robbed of his cell phone.
Detectives tracked the stolen iPhones, found the suspect and arrested him. Officers also recovered the handgun believed to have been used in the robberies.
