In an unprecedented move, the LSU System Board of Supervisors approved a measure at their Friday meeting that forces LSU Athletics to donate $36 million in supplemental funding to the LSU Baton Rouge campus over the next five years.
The LSU Athletics Fund Transfer Policy will provide $7.2 million annually to the University to aid in years of budget crises after cuts from the state government.
The money will go to fund academics, research, public service and allow the University to have more certainty when developing operating budgets, which have absorbed slashes handed down the state over the last five years.
This year, LSU Athletics gave $5.5 million to the University to aid the Cox Academic Center for Student Athletes and salvaged further blows to the University’s programs and operations.
