Come fall, students may have to wake up 10 minutes earlier to make it to class on time.
The Daily Reveille reported in November that the LSU Faculty Senate approved the resolution to move up the start and end times of classes by 10 minutes. For example, an hour-long class that begins at 1 p.m. would actually start at 1:00, rather than 1:10, and end at 1:50 instead of 2:00.
Despite the approval, the plan hasn’t been implemented yet.
Faculty Senate President Kevin Cope said in an e-mail that the University Registrar needed time to work out the kinks of the new plan, but he expects the schedule to be put in place next semester.
Fereydoun Aghazadeh, industrial engineering professor and the resolution’s author, said most schools in Louisiana begin their classes on the hour and half-hour.
“This will cut through the confusion and provide the University a system that is uniform with most others,” Aghazadeh said.
The resolution was amended to only affect the fall and spring semesters after it was first reviewed by the Senate in October.
Aghazadeh said the summer session and intersession schedules were left alone because those class times tend to vary and changing them could cause confusion.
