The LSU football team’s annual spring game will have added excitement this year with the addition of a concert and pep rally. Kid Rock and his Twisted Brown Trucker Band and Sara Evans will perform as part of Gridiron Bash: The Ultimate Fan Competition hosted by LSU and MSL Sports and Entertainment on Friday, April 4, the University’s athletic department announced Tuesday. Tickets for the event are $41. Other fan festivities, including a pep rally, a fan contest and the presentation of the 2007 People’s National Championship Trophy, will take place during the day-long event, which will be followed by the spring game at 5 p.m. Saturday. Kid Rock’s first album debuted in 1990, and he has sold more than 22 million albums. His 2007 album “Rock N Roll Jesus” reached No. 1 on the Billboard charts. Sara Evans is a multi-platinum country singer who was named the Academy of Country Music’s Top Female Vocalist in 2006. The video for her song “Born to Fly” was named Country Music Association’s Video of the Year. MSL selected LSU as one of 20 Division I schools nationwide to host Gridiron Bash. LSU Athletic Director Skip Bertman said the event will add to the excitement on campus during the spring game. “Tens of thousands of spectators come out each spring to watch our football spring game, but that’s typically where the ‘fan experience’ ends,” Bertman said in a news release. “Gridiron Bash extends the experience and enables fans to support their team, give back to their university and have a great time doing so.” The fan contest, The USA Today Bash for Cash Series, names the school with the most passionate and supportive fans. Winners are determined by Gridiron Bash attendance and the number of votes and text messages for each school. LSU fans can vote by texting “LSU” to 23909. The winning university will receive $1 million, and the awards will be presented on TV. “We’re thrilled to bring Gridiron Bash to LSU,” said Shawn Garrity, president of MSL Sports and Entertainment. “Gridiron Bash truly is the ultimate fan competition. It offers fans the ideal opportunity to give back to the universities.” Tickets can be purchased at www.LSUsports.net, through the LSU Athletic Ticket Office or through www.gridironbash.com.
