Career Services plans to replace TigerTrak, a career planning resource for University students, with a software that will be easier for students to use. Sara Crow, communications manager, said Career Services has received reports from some students that TigerTrak is difficult to navigate. The service is powered by MonsterTrak, the college division of the job listing Web site Monster.com. “Monster.com has hired a software company called CSO to handle the technology component of what we’ve been doing, so we will be transitioning to the new company in the next couple of weeks,” Crow said. “And what that’s going to mean for students is the new software, in addition to being more user-friendly, has a lot of options in terms of customizing.” The new software will include access to job postings, on-campus interview listings, upcoming events, registration for workshops and the ability to upload resumés and portfolios. “What we’re trying to do is to make this a one-stop shop for the services that we provide electronically,” Crow said. “It should be more user-friendly for the students.” Crow said the new software will allow Career Services to integrate many of the technology programs it uses now. “For instance, we have an online mentoring program that allows students to search for alumni or friends of LSU to get advice about career planning,” she said. TigerTrak is accessible through PAWS under Student Services, but Crow said details about how students will access the new career planning software are still being discussed. Career Services is actively seeking name suggestions from students for the new service. Crow said she would like to see the words “job” or “career” in the title. Crow said students will receive an e-mail about the new software within the next few days. “What we’re looking for is a name that will encompass all of the different services that would be accessible through the new system,” she said.
