After a losing streak on the road, the LSU Tigers made a triumphant return to Alex Box Stadium on Tuesday night, powering past the McNeese Cowboys in a 10-3 victory.
Head Coach Jay Johnson says, “It was a tough weekend but I would coach these guys any day.”
The win lifts LSU to an impressive 32-6 record and halts McNeese’s remarkable 12-game winning streak, dropping the Cowboys to 27-6 on the year.
The Tigers wasted no time establishing their momentum. During the first inning first baseman Jared Jones launched a two-run homer—his 12th of the season—keying a three-run first inning and setting the tone for the evening.
Jones finished the night a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate, driving in three runs and crossing home three times himself.
Meanwhile, designated hitter Ethan Frey contributed a 3-for-4 performance, notching two RBI and a double.
On the mound, freshman right-hander William Schmidt improved his record to 6-0, limiting McNeese to two runs on five hits and striking out four in 3.1 innings.
The bullpen then sealed the deal, with freshman righty Mavrick Rizy leading a trio including Cooper Williams and Jacob Mayers—to combine for 10 strikeouts, zero walks, and only two hits allowed over the final 4.2 innings.
Next up for LSU is a three-game SEC series against Alabama, beginning Thursday at 7 p.m. CT at Alex Box Stadium.
