Former LSU receiver Early Doucet continues to wait for a call after not being one of the wide receivers to fly off the board in the second round of the NFL draft.
Ten receivers were selected in the second round round after none were picked in the first round.
The St. Louis Rams chose the first wide receiver of the draft by picking Houston’s Donnie Avery at No. 33.
After the Avery pick, Washingtondrafted Michigan State’s Devin Thomas and Oklahoma’s Malcolm Kelly, Green Bay took Kansas State’s Jordy Nelson, Buffalo chose Indiana’s James Hardy, Denver drafted Virginia Tech’s Eddie Royal, Cincinnati chose Coastal Carolina’s Jerome Simpson, Philadelphia grabbed California’s DeSean Jackson, Pittsburgh took Texas’ Limas Sweed and Tampa Bay drafted Appalachian State’s Dexter Jackson.
Doucet is now the second-highest ranked receiver on ESPN draft expert Mel Kiper Jr.’s “Big Board” behind Michigan’s Mario Manningham entering Sunday’s portion of the draft.
The Indianapolis Colts, who selected No. 59, had more interest in Doucet than any other team, according to local draft analyst Mike Detillier.
But the Colts did not select the St. Martinville native and friend of former LSU and current Indianapolis running back Joseph Addai.
In other second round news, the New Orleans Saints selected Indiana cornerback Tracy Porter at No. 40 and the Chicago Bears chose Tulane running back Matt Forte at No. 44.
The third through seventh rounds of the draft will take place Sunday, beginning at 9 a.m.
