The LSU baseball team tied the longest win streak in school history with a 12-8 victory Saturday against Alabama.
The Tigers’ 19 wins in a row tie the record set by the 1997 team, which went on to win a national championship.
LSU exploded for six runs in the eight inning and two runs in the ninth to secure the win.
Sophomore Blake Dean hit a grand slam in the eighth to give LSU a 10-6 lead heading into the bottom of the inning.
Both Dean and sophomore Jared Mitchell had three hits on the day.
Starting pitcher Jordan Brown gave up six of Alabama’s eight runs. Nolan Cain, Anthony Ranaudo and Jared Bradford relieved Brown and surrendered only four hits in four combined innings.
The Tigers face the winner of tonight’s matchup between Ole Miss and Vanderbilt in the Southeastern Conference tournament title game Sunday at 3 p.m.
LSU defeated Vanderbilt earlier in the tournament, 8-2.
