LSU fans had a potentially big reason to worry during the No. 16 Tigers’ 35-10 victory against Tulane when junior running back Charles Scott limped off the field in the second quarter. And those worries weren’t eased when Scott sat out the entire second half after suffering what appeared to be an ankle injury. But after the game, Scott said the injury wasn’t serious.”At first it was a little questionable,” Scott said. “But it’s perfect now.”The junior still picked up his sixth 100-yard rushing performance of the season without stepping on the field in the second half.Scott began the game carrying the ball six times for 84 yards and a touchdown on the Tigers’ first drive. He suffered the injury in the second quarter, but LSU coach Les Miles said he expects the Saline native to be ready for the Tigers’ game Saturday against No. 1 Alabama.Scott finished the half and the game with 12 carries for 114 yards and a touchdown.”I felt like I could have done a little more,” Scott said. “At the same time, we didn’t need it.”But Scott continued his personal dominance of the Green Wave. He carried the ball 15 times for 101 yards and two touchdowns in 2006. The performance was his first career 100-yard rushing performance and his first multiple touchdown game.He racked up 53 yards and two touchdowns when the Tigers visited the Green Wave in 2007, which led the Tigers in rushing that day. This year several other running backs got their chance to shine.”We have so many great [running backs],” said offensive lineman Ciron Black. “Charles kind of tweaked his ankle but other backs stepped up.”Junior running back Keiland Williams had his second best rushing performance of the season, carrying the ball 13 times for 59 yards, and his second rushing touchdown of the season.”Every game we know Charles, Keiland and [Richard] Murphy are going to get back there and give us at least 100 yards,” said junior receiver Brandon LaFell.Redshirt sophomore running back Murphy had a season-high rushing total with 57 yards on 12 carries.”If the passing game is not working,” Murphy said. “You got to be the one that comes through for the offense.”In his first significant dose of playing time, redshirt freshman running back Stevan Ridley picked up 51 yards on five carries and a late touchdown that put the Tigers up 35-10. “Stevan Ridley even showed up tonight,” Black said.On the other side of the ball, Tulane freshman Nathan Austin got the start in place of injured junior Andre Anderson and led his team with 53 rushing yards and three catches for 23 yards.”It was just a regular game,” Austin said. “I wasn’t nervous.”ESPN COLLEGE GAMEDAYThe ESPN College GameDay crew is heading to Baton Rouge for the first time this season against No. 1 Alabama. The LSU Salutes Hall of Honor Induction Ceremony is scheduled Saturday from 9 to 10:30 a.m. on the Parade Ground, meaning GameDay must find another campus location for the show, LSU team spokesman Michael Bonnette said Sunday.Bonnette said the University is considering the Bernie Moore Track Stadium as a possible location. The show has previously aired from the ramp of the PMAC, but Bonnette said the show’s set has grown too large for that site.—-Contact Amos Morale at [email protected]
