LSU’s Head Baseball Coach Jay Johnson spoke with the media after his team’s dominating 12-0 win over Dallas Baptist in the 1-0 game of the 2025 Baton Rouge Regional.
All eyes were on star redshirt sophomore Kade Anderson, and after a shaky start, Anderson would settle right in, dealing seven innings of four-hit baseball, allowing no runs and raking up 11 strikeouts.
“And Kade, as Kade has been all year, was the best pitcher on the planet tonight. And executed at a high level,” Johnson said of his starter.
Offensively it was more of the same for the Tigers, with Ethan Frey opening the scoring in the first with a two-out, two-strike, two-RBI double down the right field line to start the fireworks for the Tigers.
“Ethan, two-strike hard and low hits the ball the other way, very professional hitter-like to get us going,” Johnson said.
The Tigers would keep the foot on the gas pedal, scoring in six of the eight innings they hit in, a constant pressure that Jay Johnson believes serves his team well.
DBU committed four errors against LSU on Saturday night in an uncharacteristic performance, and the Tigers would capitalize, with all four errors eventually leading to runs.
“I think it was a really good offensive performance tonight, getting lead-off guys on, executing the bunting game, ran the bases smart and aggressive,” Johnson said. “Clutch hitting, two out hard and low line drives, extra-base hits, that’s a lot of what the blueprint looks like.”
Out of the bullpen a trio of D.J. Primeaux, Jacob Mayers and William Schmidt would keep the door shut on a Patriots offense which boasts five .300-plus hitters, sealing the Tigers dominant victory over DBU.
LSU now sits in the famous “catbird” seat, with either Little Rock or Dallas Baptist having to win twice on Sunday to force a winner-take-all game on Monday. Anderson’s performance Saturday along with Anthony Eyanson’s on Friday sets LSU up incredibly well for Sunday’s Regional Final, with a stable of arms ready to collect the outs needed.
LSU will take the field at 8 p.m. on Sunday against the winner of DBU-Little Rock at 2 p.m., looking to book their ticket to the Super Regionals
