Former LSU point guard Temeka Johnson has started a charity program called Heaven Opens People’s Eyes, Johnson and associate head coach Bob Starkey announced Tuesday.HOPE has established a scholarship program called the Jewel Johnson Hopeful Teacher Scholarship, given to four college students in Louisiana who meet certain criteria. The scholarship is named in Johnson’s grandmother’s honor.In the foundation’s current state, each student receives $5,000 in scholarship money.Former LSU center Sylvia Fowles has worked with Johnson, donating $5,000 to the program.Johnson has also started an Adopt-A-School Program within HOPE. Magnolia Woods Elementary School in East Baton Rouge Parish is the first school chosen for the program.Johnson will make several appearances at Magnolia Woods throughout the school year to help organize fundraising and volunteer activities.
