BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — The two main contenders in the U.S. Senate race are facing each other in a debate for the first time.
Monday’s debate is the first of four planned meetings between Democratic Senator Mary Landrieu and Republican state Treasurer John Kennedy.
The debate comes as the race has grown more attack-focused, with each candidate running TV ads slamming the other on an array of issues.
The election is November 4.
