The University has canceled classes for the evening after a power outage swept through main campus at about 5:15 p.m. Monday.
Campus could be without power for a few hours, according to David Rainer, associate vice chancellor for environmental health and public safety.
A short circuit in one of the power systems likely caused the outage, Jack Colby, associate vice chancellor for facilities operations, said.
Once high-voltage technicians come to campus, they will try to isolate the point of the system where the problem occurred, and turn on power in the rest of the system, he said.
The Crisis Communication Team sent an emergency text message to students and faculty who signed up for the service informing them of the outage and referring them to the University’s Web site.
Dining halls and C-stores are closed.
