Students, faculty, staff and administrators of LSU:On behalf of all of LSU Student Government, we would like to extend our sincere appreciation to all of the volunteers who assisted in the campus emergency preparedness and recovery process for Hurricane Gustav. As many of you know, the LSU campus served as a housing facility for special needs patients during the storm. These individuals, many of whom were elderly or handicapped, received quality care from the hundreds of volunteers who spent the week accommodating their various needs. It is our hope that we touched those we assisted as much they energized and inspired us. In unselfish service to others, we have grown as a community that understands the importance of protecting the most vulnerable in our society. Moreover, without student volunteers, 459 Commons could not have served the more than 4,000 students who used the dining facility during and after the storm. We would also like to thank the LSU EOC and LSU Staff, both of whom worked around the clock to ensure the restoration of power, remove debris and open essential services as quickly as possible. Finally, we hope that all students remained safe during the storm. If anyone is in need of special assistance, we urge you to contact us at (225) 578-8727.During times of hardship, the true spirit of our University was exemplified. We have been tested, and we have excelled.Forever LSU,Colorado Robertson & Shannon BatesLSU Student Government President & Vice President—-contact The Daily Reveille’s opinion staff at [email protected]
