Ninety percent of Baton Rouge Entergy customers will have electricity restored by Sept. 17, according to an Entergy news release. The entire city will have power restored by Sept. 24.At least 342,000 Entergy customers, or 36 percent, who lost power because of Hurricane Gustav’s landfall last Monday have power restored, as of Thursday evening.”The last storm [causing] damage close to [Gustav] was Hurricane Andrew in 1992,” according to Entergy’s Web site.Entergy also reports 150 gas lines damaged in Baton Rouge by uprooted trees. Fifteen of these lines will be repaired, while 135 have “extensive damage.””In terms of power outages, Hurricane Gustav is the second worst in Entergy’s 95-year history,” according to the company’s Web site. “The only larger number of Entergy outages was 1.1. million 2005 during Hurricane Katrina, which has been described as one of the worst natural disasters in American history.”East Baton Rouge Parish is among the parishes with the largest numbers of Entergy power losses.
