Richard Baker, R-Baton Rouge, said Friday that he may leave Congress within the month if he is chosen for a key position with a hedge fund association, according to The Associated Press.
Baker is a senior member of the House of Representatives and has served since 1986. His departure would mark a loss of political clout for Louisiana in the capital.
Baker is a member of the subcommittee on water resources and the environment, which holds jurisdiction over the U.S . Army Corps of Engineers, an organization engaged in the Hurricane Katrina recovery process.
