A hard practice on Sunday and a change in the starting lineup weren’t enough to get N.C. State’s (11-5, 0-2) offense clicking against Clemson (14-3, 2-1) Tuesday night, as the Pack fell 70-54 to the Tigers in Clemson, S.C. Lowe started sophomore point guard Marques Johnson over freshman point guard Javier Gonzalez for the game in hopes to start his team off with an offensive burst it has lacked in past weeks, particularly in scoring only 13 first-half points against rival North Carolina last Saturday.Things didn’t get much better for the Pack, however,as Johnson went scoreless in 20 minutes of play, and had four assists and four turnovers and Gonzalez had two turnovers with no assists in nine minutes. The Pack turned the ball over a total of 23 times in the game, much to the credit of Clemson’s full court pressure, but also on the part of sloppy offensive decisions.By the game’s end, junior guard Courtney Fells, who led the Wolfpack with 19 points, was bringing the ball up the court.State scored 24 first-half points, still trailing by only eight points at the break, as Fells hit a 3-pointer with 15 seconds in the half to slice into the Clemson lead.Clemson freshman guard Terrence Oglesby hit three 3-pointers in the first half to help the Tigers pull away early, and the Tigers broke things open in the second half, scoring quick transition baskets as the Pack made an attempt at full-court pressure. After freshman J.J. Hickson scored the game’s first basket, State never again regained the lead.Clemson pulled out of sight in the second, leading by as much as 24 with over six minutes remaining.Hickson, the Pack’s leading scorer entering the contest, was held to four points in the contest and redshirt sophomore Brandon Costner was held scoreless. Freshman Tracy Smith scored 13 points off the bench in the loss.
