It’s ratty and it’s thin. Every year since it’s debut at third-grade field day, it seems to shrink just a little bit more. There are holes in the armpits and when you’re not looking, your mom tries to throw it in the trash. It’s your favorite T-shirt, and although it shows your whole midriff, it doesn’t have to be tossed just yet. With a needle, thread, stuffing and a few easy steps, your favorite shirt can become a bedtime companion for life.
Get the gear
You’ll need to have these items before you begin:
That favorite shirt (everyone has one)
Needle and thread
Poly fill or like stuffing (sold at craft stores)
Scissors
Buttons for an extra touch
Make the changes
Cut the bottom of the shirt (gasp!) off in a straight line until the length of the shirt is the desired length of the pillow. Turn the shirt inside out. Sew straight across the bottom and sew the arm holes closed at their bases. Cut the sleeves off close to the hems you just created.
Note: Don’t sew up the top yet!
Stuff and sewStuff the collar to the desired firmness. Sew the collar shut and cuddle away.
But if you don’t have the heart to tear up that treasured tee, head over to a thrift store for a top you can crop — guilt-free.
