Chase Clement, a strongside defensive end from E.D. White High School in Thibodaux, verbally committed to LSU coach Les Miles on Saturday night. Clement was scheduled to make an official visit to Alabama in mid-January, but that trip has now been canceled. Popular recruiting Web site Rivals.com ranks the 6-foot-5-inch, 240-pound defensive end as the No. 5 prospect at his position in the country. “I just love [LSU],” Clement told the Times-Picayune on Saturday. “I love the school. I’ve been going to LSU games since I’ve been little. I had three uncles play for LSU. I didn’t want to go any further with recruiting. I was ready to finish this up.” Clement made an official visit to Tulane the first weekend of December. Louisville, Ole Miss and Florida were among the other schools Clement considered. LSU now has 22 commitments for the 2008 class. The Tigers have guaranteed three of the state’s top-five rated players with Clement, athlete Brandon Taylor and tight end Matt Branch.
LSU also has a commitment from the No. 6 strongside defensive end in the country, Chancey Aghayere of Garland, Texas.
