BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Fast thinking by a Baton Rouge police officer, who was on routine patrol, saved the life of a 94-year-old woman during a house fire.
Alan Hamilton, who has been with the police for 11 months, saw a house burning Sunday night.
Hamilton radioed the fire in, then ran inside and found the woman lying on the floor. He was able to carry the woman outside to safety.
Officers T.J. Morse and Adam Lea arrived and helped get two more adults and four children out unharmed.
Fire officials say the home was totally engulfed in smoke so the officers had to feel their way to find the people inside.
Morse was treated on the scene for smoke inhalation, but none of the people who lived there received any serious injuries.
