The Staff Senate’s annual “Clovers and Quarters” fundraiser has come to a close.
The senate’s scholarship committee organized the fundraiser, which collected spare change in canisters placed across campus. The money raised benefits the Staff Senate Education Fund, a scholarship that covers fees for a staff member pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree at LSU.
This year, the scholarship committee doubled its goal to $1,000. They collected $734.33, and though that amount did not meet the fundraiser’s goal, scholarship committee chair Robin Kistler said she is completely satisfied with the outcome.
“This is the largest amount of donations raised since the staff scholarship fund was created and we are excited to know that our efforts proved positive,” Kistler said.
With a higher monetary intake than usual, The Staff Senate is considering an alteration to the scholarship. Rather than give one staff member a $500 per year award, the scholarship committee is exploring the option of spreading the money to more staff members by solely covering the cost of one three-hour course.
Kistler said she is enthusiastic about future possibilities for the scholarship fund and the positive response it has gotten from University staff, faculty and students.
“The Staff Senate Education Fund is one of the many ways Staff Senate works to offer professional development opportunities for the staff to grow and further develop their careers at LSU,” Kistler said.
