LSU football coach Les Miles picked up his sixth committment for the class of 2010 on Thursday in Dutchtown safety Eric Reid. For Reid, who has a 4.4 gpa, academics were just as important as athletics in making his decision.”I already knew they were a tier one school academically, and with the athletics, I just went ahead and committed,” Reid said. The 6-foot-3-inch, 200-pound safety prospect has been garnering national attention, already holding scholarship offers from Tennessee, NC State and LSU among others. He committed while visiting campus Thursday to watch the Tigers spring practice and he liked what he saw.”I noticed they ran a defense that I’m already familiar with,” Reid said. “I like that. It shortens the learning curve a little bit. I told Coach [Ron] Cooper first, then we went tell Coach Miles. We were just joking around. He welcomed me to the team.”Reid is ranked by Scout.com as a four-star safety for the class of 2010.Reid’s father, Eric Reid Sr., said his son had the Tigers out in front for a while.”He wanted to commit earlier, but I just told him it’s not the time,” the elder Reid said. “My thing was this is the begginning of a process. It’s a learning experience, and it’s a one time deal. Reid Sr., a former All-American track star at LSU, said his son may still want to enjoy the process and take visits to other schools, although a decision has not been made.Other 2010 LSU commits include wide receiver Mike Davis, tight end Nick Jacobs, athlete Tharold Simon, linebacker DJ Welter and fullback Bradon Worle.
