A day perpetually threatened with rain turned out highly successful for the LSU men and women’s track and field teams.
In an afternoon littered with preliminary races and heavy competition, the Tigers showcased their prowess in the LSU Relays at Bernie Moore Track Stadium.
“We were fortunate that the weather held out,” said LSU coach Dennis Shaver. “For the first relay meet of the year, I thought our team performed extremely well.”
The men’s 4×100-meter relay team, anchored by football star Trindon Holliday, blitzed the rest of the field for a time of 39.36 seconds, tops in both heats.
The women’s 4×100-meter relay posted a time of 43.84 seconds, good for second in its heat and qualifying them for the final race Saturday.
Lady Tiger sprinters Samantha Henry and Kenyanna Wilson qualified for the finals in the women’s 100-meter dash in their first 100-meter dash of the outdoor season.
After qualifying for the NCAA regional meet with a javelin toss of 156 feet, 4 inches last week, senior Anna Lyons bested herself with a 157-foot, 3-inch heave.
