BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Lawmakers have opened their hearings on Gov. Bobby Jindal’s $26.7 billion budget proposal for next year.
As they began, they got a warning from Jindal’s financial analysts to consider how the budget they craft this year will affect the state’s finances in later years.
Commissioner of Administration Angele Davis told lawmakers the state must shrink it’s spending, cut jobs and consolidate duplicative tasks. And she told them to expect to continue that lessened spending in later years.
The House Appropriations Committee started its budget hearings Tuesday and will hold three days of those hearings each week through April.
