The Jefferson Parish Sherrif’s Office confirmed the Wal Mart, gang-initiation text message is a hoax, according to The Times-Picayune. Text messages began circulating campus today, claiming a gang initiation where three females would be shot at random at an undisclosed Wal Mart would take place tonight.
The Baton Rouge Police Department began receiving calls about the text messages last night, according to BRPD Lt. Bart Thompson. Thompson said BRPD plans to release a statement shortly confirming the text messages as a massive hoax. “Do not go to any Wal Mart tonight. Gang initiation to shoot 3 women tonight. Not sure which Wal Mart. Confirmed on TV. Forward to all the girls in your phone,” the text message read.
