HAMMOND, La. (AP) — A man walking home from the hospital where his wife had just given birth was hit and killed by a car early Wednesday morning.
Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Daniel Edwards says 26-year-old Donald Renee Campbell Jr., of Hammond, was apparently walking in the same direction as traffic around 1:15 a.m. when a car traveling down the road approached. Edwards says that Campbell, at some point, stepped out of the shoulder and into the road and the driver did not have time to avoid hitting him.
Edwards says Campbell was walking home after the birth of his son.
Edwards said that neither speed nor alcohol was suspected in the crash.
