Obesity is a growing problem in Louisiana and action needs to be taken to fight against it, a group of experts at last weeks Ag Center summit decided.The summit called State Nutrition Action Plans Summit was on March 19, and involved participants from 19 parishes across southeastern Louisiana, including the Baton Rouge and New Orleans metropolitan areas, according to the Ag Center’s news release.The summit designed to bring together representatives involved in nutrition education to discuss the problems talked about Louisiana’s current unhealthy residents.”Increasing fruit and vegetable consumption is good in terms of reducing weight gain and combating the obesity epidemic,” said said Dr. Tom Farley of the Tulane School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine at the summit. “So we should say ‘eat more fruits and vegetables and don’t consume junk food.'”——Contact Joy Lukachick at [email protected]
