Four hurricanes, including at least one major storm, are expected to hit the United States in 2009, according to an early hurricane season forecast by AccuWeather.com hurricane forecaster Joe Bastardi.”Early indications show a reduction in the overall number of named storms and of major hurricanes in the Atlantic basin compared to last year, but the number of storms should still be near or a little above normal,” Bastardi said.Despite the lower number of hurricanes expected to make landfall, Bastardi said not to rule out the possibility of a major hurricane making landfall in the U.S.”This year takes one major hurricane hitting a highly populated area to have devastating impact,” Bastardi said.  ——Contact Brianna Paciorka at [email protected]
