The trial began this morning in New Orleans for the case commonly known as the MRGO lawsuit.
The five residents and one business from New Orleans East, the Lower Ninth Ward and St. Bernard Parish, filed a suit against the United States for flooding damages allegedly caused by the Mississippi River-Gulf Outlet after Hurricane Katrina.
The trial will be decided by a judge and not a jury to decide if the US Army Corps of Engineers violated specific mandates for the MRGO.
If the plaintiffs win, more than 120,000 other individuals, businesses and government entities could have a better shot at claiming billions of dollars in damages, according to the Associated Press.——Contact Joy Lukachick at [email protected]
