The No. 5 LSU gymnastics team captured its second straight NCAA Central Regional title Saturday evening in Columbus, Ohio, posting a 196.875 to advance to the NCAA Championships.
The Tigers, who were seeded No. 1 in the region, also won the regional championship last season en route to the program’s first Super Six apperance.
“This puts us in an elite group of teams that make that repeat trip to the NCAA Championships,” LSU coach D-D Breaux said in a news release. “I am really proud to be a part of that, but most of all I’m proud of the girls that they have been able to maintain this level of excellence throughout the year. The kids have worked hard, and I have to give them credit.”
LSU senior Ashleigh Clare-Kearney, who was named Gymnast of the Year in the regional, won the vault title with a 9.95 score. Junior Summer Hubbard won the bars with a 9.925 score, and junior Susan Jackson won the beam title with a 9.925 score.
Jackson also captured the all-around title with a 39.600.
Oregon State finished second in the regional with a 196.800 and will also advance to the NCAA Championships, which will be held April 16-18 in LIncoln, Neb.
