Inquiring minds and students anticipating extra credit from certain teachers filled the Hopkins Black Box Theatre on Wednesday night as the audience watched and laughed at the live performances and films created by several undergraduate students. The Spring Undergraduate Showcase, produced by performance studies graduate teaching assistant Danielle McGeough , was an evening of celebration. ”It’s a celebration of all the work that students created this semester,” McGeough said. “It’s also a way of showing the public what students are doing in their classes.” Some of the performances and films created were selected from a wide variety of classes, including performance in everyday life, performance in literature and body performance culture. The creative event featured a total of four short, experimental films and several live poetry and prose performances. Some of the performers recited and adapted poems written by notable authors, including Maya Angelou, Robin Hemley and Nicholas Hogg. Performer Kory Dahlen, construction management sophomore, compiled a performance of poetry, prose and outside text for his film. ”Every other line in my poem is from the Green Eggs and Ham book,” Dahlen said. “It’s kind of funny because it incorporates the struggle of the character to get the green eggs and ham.” McGeough called the event “exciting”. “I am always amazed and inspired by the work students created,” she said. The Hopkins Black Box Theatre will present another Undergraduate Showcase tonight at 7:30 p.m. McGeough said each night of the showcase will have different small group performances and films. The cost of the tickets are based on suggested donations accepted at the door.—–Contact Kimberly Brown at [email protected]
