BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — A Senate committee Tuesday tackles Gov. Bobby Jindal’s proposal to use $50 million from an economic development fund to keep open a chicken plant in north Louisiana.
The bill by Republican Sen. Mike Walsworth would change the rules governing the state’s $414 million economic development “mega-fund.”
Gov. Bobby Jindal wants to use the mega-fund on four projects totaling $259 million. But two projects don’t meet the criteria for receiving the dollars, including the chicken plant deal. Jindal wants to change the statute governing the fund so he can use the dollars for the deals.
A Senate committee was scheduled to take up the bill Tuesday afternoon.
