LSU coach Trent Johnson, the men’s basketball team, boosters and the athletic staff held a banquet Monday to close the Tigers’ 2008-2009 season.Several members of the Southeastern Conference regular season champion Tigers received awards at the event, emceed by former LSU player Jordy Hultberg.Senior guards Marcus Thornton and Garrett Temple earned the team’s Most Valuable Player award and Best Defensive Player award, respectively.Senior center Chris Johnson received the “Coaches’ Award,” while senior forward Quintin Thornton earned the Tigers’ “Sixth Man Award” for his role backing Chris Johnson up.Junior forward Tasmin Mitchell garnered the “Most Inspirational Award” for his performance after returning from a stress fracture that cost him nearly the entire 2007-2008 season.Sophomore guard Bo Spencer was awarded “Most Improved Player” after moving into the starting lineup in his second season at LSU.The team was also presented with framed gold LSU jerseys.The event “brought full closure to the 2008-2009 season,” Trent Johnson said in a news release. “Now we can move forward to the 2009-2010 season.”
