A resolution sponsored by the Faculty Senate aims to make Memorial Day an official University holiday. Because University employees are allowed only 14 holidays per year, this measure would require one current holiday to be given up. The Staff Senate is opposed to the idea because it would be too difficult to choose a holiday to give up. Staff Senate President Patricia Beste said this resolution is a case of the faculty proposing something that would affect all staff but few faculty members. The resolution was tabled in January to allow for conversation between the senates. If talks go well, it is expected to be voted on at the Faculty Senate’s February meeting. ——Contact Ryan Buxton at [email protected]
