The Tigers had a six run offensive explosion in the fifth inning to carry them to a 11-2 victory against UCF on Saturday afternoon in Alex Box Stadium in front of 5,550 fans.”It was a good day for us offensively overall,” said LSU coach Paul Mainieri. “We let a couple of opportunities get away from us early in the game, but we kept going … and we were able to string together a few things later in the game.”Dean got his second RBI of the day by driving in junior second baseman Ryan Schimpf to start off the scoring in the fifth. Dean was then driven in by freshman first baseman Grant Dozar’s first collegiate hit and RBI.LSU junior catcher Sean Ochinko – who finished the game 3-for-4 with a career-high 4 RBI – continued the scoring in the fifth by driving in LeMahieu and Dozar on a 2 RBI single to put the Tigers up, 6-1.”We have a solid lineup,” Ochinko said. “We know eventually we are going to score runs.”Mitchell finished up the inning by hitting a double to drive in Ochinko and Dozar to put LSU up, 8-1.The scoring started early for the Tigers when junior left fielder Blake Dean ripped a one out single past the diving arms of UCF first baseman Kiko Vazquez, scoring junior right fielder Jared Mitchell to put LSU up, 1-0.The Tigers ran into trouble in the third inning when sophomore pitcher Daniel Bradshaw loaded the bases with only one out and the Knights’ four and five hole hitters coming up.Bradshaw – who lasted only 3 and 2/3 innings – struck out UCF left fielder Chris Duffy before getting Vazquez to fly out to Dean in left field to keep the score at 1-0.In the bottom of the third, LSU scored a run when sophomore DJ LeMahieu hit an infield single to score sophomore center fielder Leon Landry to put the Tigers up, 2-0.LeMahieu finished the day 3-for-4 with an RBI.The Knights got that run back in the top of the fourth on catcher Brandon Romans’ solo home run deep to right-center field to cut the Tigers’ lead to 2-1.In the seventh inning, freshman shortstop Austin Nola got his first RBI as a Tiger to put LSU up, 11-2.The Tigers once again showed their speed on the base paths, stealing five bases.”When you have good athletes, that can beat a team in a lot of different ways,” Mainieri said. “Our base running was outstanding today.” LSU has now won 22 straight regular season games.
