Last week, the Baton Rouge Police Department and the Louisiana Department of Insurance announced the success of the license plate reader given to the Police Department in August. The reader, which can take pictures of thousands of license plates from stationary or moving vehicles, is used to identify reported stolen cars. Since its deployment in August, the reader has performed 156,945 scans that resulted in the recovery of nine stolen license plates and 23 stolen vehicles, according to a Louisiana Department of Insurance news release. “The License Plate Reader is one of those tools that allow us to work smarter by taking advantage of advanced technology to stay a step ahead of criminals,” said Baton Rouge Police Chief Jeff LeDuff. “The LATIFPA is a strong partner with local law enforcement in fighting auto theft, and we are grateful for their continued support and assistance.”—-Contact Kyle Bove at [email protected]
