The School of Social Work is developing a certificate in gerontology,or the study of aging, to be offered fall 2010.The new program will include in-depth courses focusing specifically onworking with adults, a research project and a field internship, saidChristian Molidor, Dean of the School of Social Work.The field of gerontology is rapidly expanding, Molidor said, becausemillions of people will be added to the elderly population in the next20 years and people need to be trained to work with them.”In 20 years, the Baby Boom population will add millions of elderlyinto the United States,” Molidor said. “What will you do with thesemillions of new elderly who are retired and needing medical help,psychological help and grieving help?”
