BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Two more Louisiana residents have died as the result of swine flue, bringing the total of H1N1-related deaths in the state to six.
The state Department of Health and Hospitals announced the deaths Wednesday. DHH Secretary Alan Levine says one of the victims was a girl, 12-years-old or younger, from the greater New Orleans areaa and one was a young woman from the region that includes St. Tammany, Tangipahoa and Washington parishes.
DHH says neither victim’s name was released to protect the family’s privacy.
Levine says because the virus spreads easily, residents are urged to practice good hygiene, including covering the nose and mouth when coughing or sneezing, washing hands often with soap and water and avoiding close contact with sick people.
