The LSU football team beat Washington, 31-23, in both team’s season opener in Seattle.
LSU junior wide receiver Terrance Toliver led the Tigers with four catches for 117 yards and two touchdowns. Sophomore quarterback Jordan Jefferson threw for 172 yards on 11-of-19 passing.
Toliver’s second touchdown came in the third quarter with 5:50 left in the frame on a 39-yard pass from Jefferson.
After Washington kicker Erik Folk hit a 32-yard field goal in the fourth quarter, Jefferson helped pull the Tigers away from the Huskies behind another touchdown pass to senior wide receiver Brandon LaFell with 1:54 left in the game.
Washington made it interesting at the end with one more touchdown pass by junior quarterback Jake Locker. Locker finished 25-of-45 with 320 yards passing.
FIRST HALF
The Huskies scored first on a touchdown pass by Locker in the first quarter.
After junior kicker Josh Jasper made a field goal for LSU, the Tigers responded with an interception returned for a touchdown by senior middle linebacker Jacob Cutrera on the next drive.
Toliver put the Tigers ahead of the Huskies, 17-10, on a 45-yard touchdown catch with 1:15 left in the second quarter after a field goal by Folk tied the game at 10.
Folk nailed a field goal at the end of the half to cut the defecit to 17-13.
