As the number of students with reported cases of Type A influenza increases, the University has made a firm policy for dealing with sick students.
The University has advised students with the flu to make arrangements to be absent for at least a week, the normal length of infection.
Students should e-mail each of their professors detailing their condition and the date of positive identification of infection.
Students can request their professors help acquire a volunteer note taker for each class. Each student should proactively contact the note taker.
Once the illness has passed, students should follow up with their professors before returning to class and schedule make-ups for missed assignments.
If a student experiences difficulty from a professor, they should contact Jennie Stewart, assistant director/C.A.R.E manager in the Office of Student Advocacy and Accountability at [email protected] or 225.578.5969
The University is stressing personal protection from influenza and urges people to cover their noses and mouths when they sneeze, wash their hands regularly and avoid touching their eyes and noses.
