A number of LSU athletes have been diagnosed with Type A influenza since the campus outbreak, senior associate athletic director Herb Vincent said Tuesday.”I don’t know the number; I was told there were several [cases],” Vincent said. “I don’t think there are a lot. We’ve got to expect that we’re going to have some just like the general student population, so we have to take the same precautions.”Vincent said each team is being instructed the process for dealing with ill athletes, which involves the same protocol as the rest of the student body.”When they test positive for influenza type A, they are told to go home until they’re free of their symptoms for 24 hours, just like we tell all the other students,” he said. “Each of the teams are being addressed on preventive methods for the flu.”The athletic teams were not tested for the H1N1 virus, but Vincent said a flu spreading in this season “is presumed to be the H1N1 virus.”
