(AP) — Louisiana economic development department head Stephen Moret says the state is “cautiously optimistic” that the General Motors’ assembly plant in Shreveport has “a positive long-term future.”
Moret made the statement after the Shreveport plant did not appear on Monday’s list of GM plants to be closed after the company’s bankruptcy filing.
Moret says the state is pushing the company to produce a next-generation vehicle in Shreveport.
The plant has about 800 workers remaining from a one-time payroll of 3,000. Currently, it produces Chevrolet and GMC pickups. GM is keeping those two brands.
But the plant also produces the Hummer and the Hummer pickup truck. GM says it’s in negotiations to sell that brand.—-Contact The Daily Reveille’s news staff at [email protected]
